With only a page or two to show potential employers what you got, every section on your resume is incredibly important.

The “skills” section is no different, yet, most people don't spend as much time perfecting this section of their resume as they should.

You're probably thinking, “I listed the things I’m good at, what else can I possibly do?”

First of all, its very important to match your skills with what the job description says. If a job description says they’re looking for someone with knowledge of Photoshop and illustrator, be sure to list those under skills. You should have a combination of hard and soft skills on your resume.

What's the difference between hard and soft skills?

“Hard” skills are learned, technical and quantifiable which are usually required to be successful in a job.

Examples of hard skills to include on a resume are -

Design Skills
Computer Skills
Licenses or Certifications
And Foreign languages

“Soft” skills are interpersonal skills, character traits and communications skills. They are generally more vague and open to interpretation.

Examples of soft skills to include on a resume are -

Problem solving
Critical thinking
Negotiation skills
Time management
And Leadership

Remember to order your skill list in an easy-to-read manner and group similar skills together.

With a thorough job description analysis and careful thought, your resume’s skill section could be the thing that gets you that interview!
