Limits of functions & their evaluation. Chris Tisdell UNSW Sydney

A simple example is presented where the limit as as $x$ tends to infinity is sought. The solution involves simple algebra and an application of the squeeze-pinching-sandwich theorem. Such an example is seen in first-year university.


The limit of a function as $x \to \infty$ (if it exists) describes the function's "long term" behaviour and can be important information in modelling, as this limit enables us to make predictions about the future states of the phenomena involved.
