See how H&H‘s senior editor Sally Armstrong transformed a whimsical kids’ space into a calming, restful retreat for her and husband Ted.

When one of Sally’s daughters announced she was ready for her own room, Sally moved them to separate bedrooms and used the space to create the master suite she and Ted had always dreamed of. She swapped bright books and toys with quiet colors, minimalist decor and soothing textures to create the ultimate escape. Patterned grass cloth wallpaper adds muted pattern on two of the walls, while a wide-upholstered headboard brings luxury to the space. A floating wall divides the room and creates the illusion of a walk-in closet, while still letting in natural light. Off-white carpet blankets the floor, and built-in storage keeps the space neat and tidy. The master bathroom has a clean white palette with modern finishes and striking statement tile.
