The BGP Weight Attribute is the first attribute to be considered in the BGP best path selection process. This tutorial will focus on a simple topology of 4 routers all running eBGP.
R1 has two paths to R6 one via R4 and the other via R4 currently it is choosing best path by the fact that is the oldest route but we want to influence the routing by configuring the BGP weight attribute.
Remember that BGP weight is a locally significant value and is not passed betwen routers, The default value for a learned route is 0 and the value of a locally originated route is 32768
This tutorial is suitable for CCNA, CCNP and CCIE candidates and is the first part in a BGP tutorial series of videos I will be producing.
